Causes of Sinus Infections
Bacteria, Fungus, and Virus can all be causes of a sinus infection. Sinus infections often follow bacterial and viral infections in the respiratory system, although they can also be caused by allergens and pollutants. A sinus infection damages the cell walls in the sinuses, resulting in airway obstruction and extensive inflammation. The sinuses are then no longer able to remove bacteria normally, thus the bacteria will infect the sinus lining.
Individuals with weak immune systems due to Leukemia, Diabetes, and Aids can also develop sinus infections caused by fungi.
Types of Sinus Infections

Ethmoid sinus infections occur behind the eye sockets above the nose, in the ethmoid sinuses. Symptoms may include pain around the eye, headache, pressure, fever, and congestion.
